After the Freeze...

I went out today to check on things and so far most of my plants have weathered the freeze well. It is so sad to see my Bradford Pears, I think they were hit the hardest. They were so beautiful just a few days ago. I'm not one to cry over plants, but it does bring tears to my eyes to see them. My 4 Crabapples may still bloom, they look a little burned and are limp, but I am holding out hope that they will recover. The 3 new Pink Viburnam look a little burned too. Amazingly the perennials look good. I have a few Purple Coneflowers that I transplanted in the fall that look a little bit burned, but they will recover. My Tulips are standing back up and the blooms are still closed, so hopefully they will be fine too. All in all, things don't look too bad.

  1. These look similar to trees and plants in my yard. I don't hold out much hope for my crabapple, and the redbud seems frozen in bloom. The good news is I cut a few tulips to bring inside, and they have opened up and like quite nice. I have never experienced a spring like this one!

  2. Carol, I do hope the crabapples bloom. What will happen to the trees if they don't bloom. Will they grow new leaves? Or will they just look ugly all year? I'm glad to hear that spring isn't usually like this here.

  3. The crabapples may not bloom, but they will push out new leaves. They won't look bad all summer, promise! (Unless they get apple scab or fireblight or some other disease... but most sold now are disease resistant).
