Hummingbirds are very territorial and I witnessed that firsthand this morning.
The male hummingbird would sit it the nearby tree watching carefully over his nectar source.
The female would come in to get a drink ....
and the male would chase her off. This scene was repeated several times this morning. I could hear them coming before I could see them. They are amazingly fast.
Photos like these are the only reason I'm not smug about not having to clean out feeders. Of course, I'd need a faster camera with a better zoom to get photos like these, too, alas. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteI still cannot believe that you are able to get pictures of these little things! They are amazingly quick.
ReplyDeleteI experienced the territorialism firsthand when I tried to stake up the bee balm one had knocked over. It buzzed my head a few times before I even realized what was happening, and I spun around to see it at head level chirping (swearing I'm sure) angrily at me!
