Window Bird Feeder

When I first posted a picture of this window bird feeder, I got a couple of comments asking me about it. Frances from FaireGarden asked how I kept it on the window. It was brand new when I posted before and I was concerned that maybe I had wasted my money on the feeder.

Now that it has been up a few weeks, I wanted to give those interested an update on the feeder. I am happy to report that it was money well spent and I'm very pleased with it.

I purchased the feeder at Wild Birds Unlimited and have been very impressed with the quality and the way it has stayed attached to the window. Before I attached it the first time I wet my finger and moistened the suction cups. Amazingly it has stayed on the window. Even with our below freezing temperatures and icy weather it has not budged. I lift the window to refill the two removable cups with sunflower seeds and nyjer seeds. It has been used by the house finches and goldfinches.

Libby and Lilly enjoy being so close to the birds and for some reason the birds don't really seem to mind them watching. I guess they aren't feeling too threatened. So, for those who have not been pleased with their window feeders in the past, I highly recommend this one.

  1. I've looked at those and wondered if they would actually stay attached. Looks like a trip to Wild Birds Unlimited is coming up.

  3. Robin -- we have one, as well, but then again we don't have SNOW for it to fight with! But we love having it on our breakfast room window. Ours has a one-way window -- the birds can see us through it. Maybe that's why Lilly and Libby can get so close!

  4. Well, I third that! I'm not sure I have that bird store here in OR- Are they the manufacturers, Robin?

  5. The pictures of Lily and your kitty watching the birds are priceless. I would be right there with them watching if I had a chance. I can see why you have enjoyed it so.

  7. Looks like a good feeder. We have hummingbird feeders with suction cups that work well, but I've not tried these larger feeders like yours. Looks good, too.

Love that the furkids enjoy the entertainment!

  8. Awesome pics! I'll have to see if we can find a feeder like that. I forgot whether you have squirrels. I wonder if they would bother one like that? They think our others are for them.

  9. Good to know about this feeder, Robin. And LIbby certainly is enjoying the new 'channel' of bird television, isn't she?

  10. That is precious! Look at those two admiring their little friends. You make me want one of those feeders. All this talk about cats from you and jodi makes me want one.

  11. Wonderful images Robin! I instantly laughed at the snow on top and the look on the bird's face.

I've used them too in the summer months but one fell off and broke. I think the starlings had somthing to do with that! The other may be in the shed. Perhaps this may be the best time to try it again. Oh no... the starlings have just landed. Maybe not then! Enjoy yours :-D

  13. This bird feeder looks just great! I wonder if they sell it somewhere here in Sweden - or maybe on the Internet? I will have to do some searching.
Lovely pictures as always! I know my dog would sit just like yours and watch the birds.
    Have a nice day.

  15. I have one also and it stays on the window very well! I haven't used it since last winter - you've reminded me to bring it out and fill it. I think you really like that feeder as entertainment for your cat :o)

  19. I like this post and the photos with it. I don't have a bird house and feeding station that attaches to our windows so we have to go outside in the worst blizzards to feed the birds and the heated pet's dish gives them all the fresh water they want to drink.

I do have both goldfinches and house finches and the tufted titmouse, and, the red-bellied woopeckers and slate colored Juncos and sparrows here to name just a few that winter over here in SW Ohio.

Our cat stands up and paws the window and jumps at it to try and get the birds eating off the window sill. They are so used to him that they seldom fly away.

I have a birds blog too. Mine is only the birds that come into my backyard.

  20. Robin, I was one of those who asked you about the feeder when you first posted it, and I want to thank you for the info! I went to WildBirds and purchased the smallest one, in case it didn't work out for me. But I've been very happy with it. The saleperson there suggested putting a little vegetable oil on the suction cups, which I did, and it's stayed up without any problem.

I've only had it up about a week, and the birds are just now beginning to find it. It's funny, but I took a similar picture to your first one yesterday--Toby the cat loves this feeder! So far, though, the birds seem to see me as soon as I approach the window with my camera:)

  21. LOL . . . love this and my kitties love seeing the birdies in the window!

  22. I've had great luck with your same window feeder, Robin, a great way to get 'up close and personal' with the birds ... one WARNING: DO NOT place feeder on a window over a window well. The inviting seeds fall into the hole, trapping many varments like opossums, which are not fun to retreive :)

  23. Just so funny seeing pets looking at something they can't get to. Great posting.

  25. The window feeder is great entertainment for everyone isn't it? Nice that you don't even have to go outdoors to fill it. My windows crank open so I'm thinking it wouldn't be that convenient for me. I love that Wild Birds store! I have been meaning to go there and get some "bark butter" ~ have you tried that?

  26. I would like to get one of these for our patio doors -- the cat would love it and what wonderful opportunities for photos! I love the shot of the little goldfinch, sticking his head above the snow to peek inside.

  27. My mom has that same one and we have two different ones that attach to our windows with the suction cups. All have had no problems staying attached to the windows, and I too find it amazing, what with all the winter weather that has gone through here this winter.

I see your inside animals position themselves nearby to watch the activity, too, just like our cats.
