Oasis Garden

Yesterday after the Flower and Patio show, I stopped at Sam's Club to pick up a few items. I saw this cedar raised bed garden. It's pretty cool, with an automatic irrigation system, trellis and pest proof gate and ONLY $799! Actually, if money were no object, I just might consider this.

  1. Hi Robin, If money were no object...oh the gardens we would have! Garden pests are the worst! I've noticed that Mr Cheeky Squirrel and friends have been behaving very badly at C&L! Robin, I hope you're out in the garden! gail

  3. It's interesting and pricey. Some varmit would find a way to get in I bet. Do you think your raccoon could figure this out?

  4. I find a lot of great things at Sams Club! They had a great potting shed a few years back that I thought about getting. Someone here in town did get it and it is still great looking.

  5. I'll have to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with Sam's Club. I love checking out what new and interesting things they have but I hate that I spend so much money there!

You had asked about my Bradford Pear a week or so ago- it's still there. I'll have a post on my blog once it leafs out.

  6. We saw that at our Sam's Club last week and found it interesting. Since it wasn't on our "need" list, we didn't get one.

  8. Robin, I saw a comment you made about your posts not showing up on the side bars so I checked. Sure enough your last several haven't on mine either! Wonder what is going on. I think I will re add your name and see if that helps. But will also be on the watch for posts I might miss.

The garden show pictures are glorious. Doesn't it do your heart good to see such blooming plants! Rose and I wanted to go to this one also, but couldn't make it work this week. Hope your bushes survive-I am pretty sure they will. I have trimmed mine almost to the ground before. As for the raised beds-what a little area for such a big price!!

  10. Hi Robin,
It seems money "and space" ...it's kind of bulky but very interesting. I'll be curious to see if 'my' Sam's Club has it down here.

  11. Wow, that is really something! If you had the room, the $$ it would be a great addition to anyone's garden! I like the irrigation already in there! Thanks for sharing.

  12. I think for those of us who live in neighborhoods with covenant restrictions, this would be a great way to have a small garden. You could garden and still have the backyard look attractive for nosy neighbors.

  13. ?>rdfor money;-) But, the hard work and natural set ups are much better in reality, don't ya think?
    It is pretty ingenious, though!

As for money, I just had a garden designer come in and give me an estimate for fixing my backyard. It's only $14,000!! I was shocked! It's on to the next estimate, and most likely, on to 'Mike&Jan's Self-Landscaping, Inc.'--as it's always been! We were just hoping to get a little help for some ideas we had. Unfortunately, those ideas will have to go by the wayside or be self-created on a much smaller scale!!

  14. It is interesting Robin. If money were no object, I might have something different tho. I should check our Sam's and inspect it up close. I have strict covenants in my neighborhood too so I'm trying to find an attractive way to put in raised beds that no one will complain about.

  15. That is state-of-the-art gardening. But don't you think it takes away a bit of the fun? You know, watering and picking off the bugs. And stooping over to pull weeds.

  16. Interesting items at Sam's. Love your flower collage and the ducks must be a real treat. I would love to have a few waddle around the yard.

  17. Hi Robin, that is an interesting set up. Keeping the critters away from the veggie bed is a big hassle here and solutions I have come up with a less than attractive and sometimes don't even do the job! Those with restrictions might be able to build something like this themselves for much less and still be within their covenants. I do like the no bending aspect. Imagine a seat where you could plant and weed and scoot around the u shaped beds. Looks good.

  19. I have this garden! Purchased it a couple of years ago. I have had much success with it! Love the convenience of the raised beds. As for the irrigation, I forgot to drain the lines and they burst the first winter (duh). No worries, watering them with a sprinkler or by hand is no problem! I now have it framed with PVC and plastic sheeting for an early start to the season. I plan to design and have built a permanent A-frame structure around it with chicken wire or the like to aid in the ongoing battle against the squirrels and birds (must they bite each tomato?). This way, when I wrap it again in the off season with plastic sheeting, the wire will keep the plastic from sagging with rain (fun keeping that at bay now...) I have pics if anyone is interested.
