Hummingbird Moths

These pictures of the hummingbird moth were takes several days ago. I had to resort to the Auto mode because I'm still not that great at capturing action and motion. Better to get the shot than miss it while playing around with the camera!

  4. Robin,
I've been watching the hummingbird moths around here every evening. I don't even try to capture them... for some reason I've never been able to. Your photos are wonderful ... as always. I like the Verbena too.

  10. Beautiful photos, Robin! You are too humble; few of us can take such sharp pictures even in auto mode, especially of flying creatures.

  12. Would you believe we have these in South Africa too?! I call them flying crayfish. Often see them on the herbs as evening falls.

I use the stop action mode and auto focus sometimes is the best!

  16. I love these little guys, they're the closest my garden gets to real hummers. Auto mode does the job just fine for you, especially the last photo, with the moth in focus and the background blurred.

  18. Hummingbird moths are some of my favorite wee beasties on this planet. They are so gentle and lovely. I'm with you - take advantage of the technology, kiddo.

  19. I've tried and tried, but have been unable to capture a photo of this moth. This and the sphinx moth are two of my favorites.

  25. Hey, you sound like you're apologizing for using Auto mode. No need for that! Just look at these photos! A good photographer knows how to use her equipment and this proves you're a good one! Love this!

  26. Such wonderful photos, I really enjoyed them all. I have a kitty named Lola, she looks so much like your's!! The children are so sweet, especially looking up at the Christmas Tree, with such awe in their faces. You have inspired me to work a lot harder in my yard, and to enjoy it more. Thank you so much, I can tell you're a wonderful person! ReEtta, I live in a little town called Pyrmont, close to Lafayette.
