Mosaic Monday- Frosted
I woke up yesterday morning to a heavy frost on the ground. As much as I dreaded seeing it, it was actually quite beautiful. While still in my fleece pajamas and before coffee, I put on my coat and grabbed my camera and headed out to take a few pictures and enjoy the beauty of the delicate frost on my garden.
There is a late blooming sunflower that has just opened up and a few small roses on the Knock Out rose bushes. This frost pretty much finished up what was left of the cosmos.
I know a lot of people don't like the 'Purple Wave' petunias, but I love them and have them every year. They are so easy to grow from seed in my indoor growing system, I usually have a 100% success rate. There aren't too many flowers that I can say that about! When they start looking tacky in late summer, I cut them way back and they come to life again rewarding me with beautiful blooms well into autumn. They can withstand a significant frost and still look pretty. They can also withstand the heat and don't have to be pampered. Definitely a must have for me!
I'm linking today to Mosaic Monday, hosted by Mary, from the Little Red House. Hop on over and see her gorgeous fall collage!
Wow! You captured these shots before coffee! Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful day,

So, so beautiful, Robin. Frost is so lovely, I think. Except on fruit trees, of course.
ReplyDeleteI just love your title photo. It is gorgeous. I like waves too.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when said you grabbed your camera to run get a picture. I've been outside more than once in my jammies because I saw something out the window that was calling my name! Beautiful colors in your mosaic, seems like a little frost will bring out those vibrant colors!
ReplyDeleteOh, beautiful. I need to try the wave petunias...which one do you like. They have all sorts. Like the tsunami and tidal wave....Which do you get?
ReplyDeleteYour mosaic is stunning. The frost edged leaves are just perfect.WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
Love those icy shots!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the frosted flowers !
ReplyDeleteNever had wave petunias...they sure look great. I do like starting from seed come March.

Hard frosts are hard to take because they mean the end of the gardening season but they are a work of beauty. I too run out with the camera after the first hard frost to captured the frosted leaves. Your mosaic of frost is beautiful - I especially like the outline on the roses!
ReplyDeleteThe mosaic is stunning, esp with the frosted leaves and sunflower.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic mosaic!

We had the same frost on Sunday morning, and like you, Robin, I had to get out the camera. You have captured the beauty of the morning so well in these photos! I like the Supertunias, which must be a variation on the Waves. I agree, though, that they're a must-have in my garden in the summer. I still have a few blooms hanging on.
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing frosted blooms. Great captures and mosaic.
ReplyDeleteYou're a true gardener when you choose photos/flowers over coffee;-) I love the sugar-coated appearance of the flowers. I'm one of those people whose favorite type of petunia IS the purple wave. In fact, that's the only color and type that I get!
ReplyDeleteA sugar frosted Monday morning!!
ReplyDeleteRobin I giggle reading that you sneak out in your jammies to take these photos..I suppose we all do the same...freezing toes and all!
Great mosiac this and previous posts! You are taking the time to enjoy the beauty and treasures of Autumn!!
Oh, these are gorgeous and you've managed to capture the frost so well. Wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteWOW, your frosty mosaic is gorgeous! Great photos. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI love your sugar frosted shots! I hope you have a splendid week...gail
ReplyDeleteWell we hate to see the frost take the blooms but it did make for some beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteI am with you I always have petunia's around and I love the wave types.
Hi Robyn, I found you through Lisa at Greenbow. I live outside Cincinnati, and I also love to garden. I will be visiting your blog lots more as I love your subject matter. Nice to meet you!

ReplyDeleteHi Robin, We haven't had any frost yet --so all of our roses and other flowers are still blooming.. There has been frost all around us-but none here yet. I'm sure it's coming though!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat collage..
Hugs,
Betsy
Jack frost did his work well in your garden. So beautiful~ as long as you don't think about how bad it is for your flowers.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with your photography before coffee too Robin! The photos turned out beautifully. I love to look at frosted flower photos but I haven't ever tried to take any myself. I'm not a fan of cold (even in the mildest sense) so I don't usually venture out. I'm glad I can look at them on other blogs.
ReplyDeleteps we had a cold, wet summer too which makes it hard to believe we're moving up a gardening zone. I guess it's based on overall temps??
So very pretty, Robin, even though it marks the end of the growing season! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful images at MM. :)
ReplyDeleteBrrr, I got cold just looking at all that frost! It does look pretty in pictures though, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are beautiful, Robin. The frost looks wonderful on the foliage and flowers. Here we had our first frost about six weeks' ago... so there isn't much green left in the garden.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you!
Those are awesome pictures. I love the yellow flower with the frost on the edges. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, Robin, but without coffee? You are indeed the intredpid photographer! The petunias you raise from seed are wonderful. If they do so well for you, who cares what anyone else thinks about it? I like them. :-)

Way to turn a gardeners torment into something attractive. What great vision you have.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I'm still waiting for a heavy frost...you know...it's all about the photo ;-)
