We are getting snow today! I've been so excited about getting snow just for the bird photography opportunities it creates!
I've seen more cardinals this year than ever before, I'll be posting pictures of them later. Unfortunately the most common birds at my feeders are the mourning doves, house sparrows and starlings. I'm constantly shooing the starlings away.
I tried to create an inexpensive bird baffle out of a plastic bowl to keep them from the homemade bird dough. It helps but doesn't quite do the trick!
I'll be posting more bird pictures later and will tell you about my bird photography set-up.

ReplyDeleteWe got our first accumulating snow today. At least 3 inches. It is that soft powdery snow. No snowmen will be built.:( Your bird photos are nice. I love the nuthatch.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of all the common birds with the exception of starlings. I even love my bossy bluejays and the so intelligent crows and ravens. We feed 'em all!

ReplyDeleteThat nuthatch is amazing, Robin! We hates starlings, cowbirds and house sparrows and shoo them away constantly as well. Love your inverted plastic bowl device. Brilliant!

ReplyDeleteHi Robin, great news, for your bird photos are always so wonderful. We bought a special suet feeder from Kinsman that has an outer cage around the suet, to keep the squirrels out. It really works, although the woodpeckers and others have to work a little bit harder to get to it.

Hi Robin, I have to say I always enjoy seeing photos of the common birds. Often, through good photos such as yours you get to appreciate the detail that is often missed. I do enjoy seeing your birds and (sorry) hearing about your battles with the Starlings.

I'm looking forward to reading your tips on bird photography, but I'm afraid I need a much better camera to get half-way decent photos. We've had a lot of juncos at our feeders, but my granddaughter and I were excited to see a red-bellied woodpecker at the suet feeder on Thursday. They don't show up here very often.

ReplyDeleteI feed my birds by sprinkling seed along the fence. It allows many birds to eat at once, but it makes for boring photos. I'm in awe of your photos! My most numerous birds are Chipping Sparrows and Mourning Doves. No starlings so far!
