Here are a few pictures that I have taken over the last couple of days. I have taken probably a thousand pictures since I hung the wreaths! I even bundled up for a few minutes today and sat on the patio near the feeders. The birds are more bold when it is cold! A blue jay, white-breasted nuthatch, Carolina wren and a dove came to the feeders while I sat there. I was shocked that a blue jay came with me so close.
Now that they have learned how to maneuver them and feel secure landing on them, they come and go just like they do on the other feeders. In fact they rarely use the other feeders now. They prefer the wreaths.
The blue jays come and go constantly, as long as the peanut supply lasts. I was able to buy a stash of Spanish peanuts on sale at Aldis for .69 a bag.
They will also eat the seeds from the pine cones and they like the homemade suet too. I'm not sure how much they are actually eating. They do a lot of storing and stashing; I think they are preparing for a long winter.
I'm still waiting for the cardinals to land on them. So far they aren't very interested.
Thank you all for your comments on the wreaths! Several of you said that you wanted to make one too. I'd love to see it if you decide to do it!
Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!

Wow, fantastic shots of the birds. They do love your wreaths. Happy New Years!
ReplyDeleteAny one of these photos could be your christmas card for next year. What fun having the birds so close.
ReplyDeleteThose wreaths and your photos are gorgeous, Robin. I'm considering making some myself. They really make for lovely photos. XOXOX
ReplyDeleteA. They KNOW they look GOOD on those wreaths.
ReplyDeleteB. They feel safe with all that greenery wrapped around them.
C. Holy schmokes! A Birdie Smorgasbord! What's not to love!
I cannot wait to try this out myself, Robin. You have some nice, close trees it looks like. Some of us will have to improvise. This will be fun! GREAT idea!
This is the first time I've seen your wreaths, and wow, what a great idea! When I saw the first picture in my reading nest, I thought the bird was fake, so now I'm really impressed. Great shots and idea! The wreath does a nice job of framing each shot.
ReplyDeleteYour wreaths are beautiful, Robin! What a delightful way to treat the birds. I was thinking as I scrolled down through all the photos, that one of these would make a lovely Christmas card next year. It's so nice to see the Downy woodpecker, too--I have been disappointed that I haven't seen a one of them here yet this year.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better, Robin, and best wishes for a Happy New Year!
These wreaths are fantastic bird magnets. The pictures you are getting are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
wonderful variety of birds. I know Cardinals are shy birds. As long as there are Blue Jays there they will wait it out! Great idea and photos
ReplyDeleteWONDERFUL pics and a fantastic idea. I love the little nut baskets added along with the other decorations.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots! That first one of the nuthatch almost looks fake it is so clear .....good for you!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
What a great idea !!!
ReplyDeleteThe wreaths are beautiful..ONE OF A KIND !!!
And to have the birds enjoy while creating amazing pictures.
Ok, now you've given me some ideas.
Thanks so much.
Love them, love them ,love them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Robin, these are gorgeous! The wreaths, the birds, the photos! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you all the best in the new year! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Robin! What a great idea. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWow, what gorgeous images. The variety of birds in your garden is amazing. The little sparrows and morning doves appreciate the water and feed I put out for them but they sure aren't as colorful as those that visit your garden.
ReplyDeletethese are wonderful shots...i made one out of the live square wreath that had dried up since christmas. the birds ate it up so fast. mine was not as grandiose as yours though.
ReplyDeletemerry new year robin.
What an "Edible Arrangement"!--beautiful and practical too. I didn't put up a wreath this year but will try to remember some of what you did for mine next year.
ReplyDeleteThose wreaths are so neat! That's great the birds are enjoying their treats! The last picture of the cardinal is beautiful.
ReplyDeletelove your wonderful photos and beautiful wreaths. i'd love to try this too. thanks for a great idea.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful birds! It would be a treat to sit at the window for hours and watch them. Your bird-feeding wreath looks like a tasty spot to stop and visit, that is if you were a bird.
ReplyDeleteFantastic wreaths, dear Robin...slightly belated Happy New Year to you and yours, and now I'm inspired to create something similar to these, too. AFTER I get the Christmas tree down...(normally done New Year's Day, but somehow not enough hours...
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous wreath and what awesome photos. Isn't nature grand?!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm amazed at how you've captured all of the visiting birds! Beautiful photos, and such a wonderful idea for the birds! We love feeding the birds too, and feel so sorry for them having to forage in such horrid winter conditions.
ReplyDeleteRobin,
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so cute, little robbers! Thanks for sharing them!
Well of course the birds are going to dine at such a beautiful diner!
ReplyDeleteThe wreaths make a perfect backdrop for photographing the birds. What a clever idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice assortment of birds!
ReplyDeleteRobin, what a fantastic idea for photos, and how neat that the birds are feeding from your wreaths so cooperatively. I can imagine how much time you must spend watching them with camera in hand.
ReplyDeleteA lovely way to help make the winter more pleasant. Your photos are beautiful!
I hope you had a wonderful birthday.
