Hummingbird Pictures

Saturday morning I was sitting at the window having a cup of coffee when this hummingbird flew up to the feeder. I began taking pictures through the window, but they weren't turning out that great. She was so still and quiet so I moved closer and actually opened the window without startling her.
There was no competition at the feeder and it was pretty chilly, I'm thinking that may have been why she was still for so long. She stayed in that same spot for about ten to fifteen minutes. Of course the whole time I'm snapping pictures. I've not had one to sit that still for me so it was quite a thrill for me and just made my day.
The hummingbirds like the sunflowers too. It's not a very good picture, but you can see one at this sunflower.
It's hard for me to get a picture of the hummingbirds at the salvia because the tall verbena is in the way.

I saw the hummingbirds again today. It will warm up some this week so hopefully they'll be around a few more days.

  1. Your pictures are stunning!!! I love them. I will have to browse through more.

You mentioned the Bread Beckers on my blog. We bought our DLX and mixer from Brad and Sue. I think lots of people hung around and stalked them like you did.

Thanks for stopping by. I will be back to look at pictures.

  2. Great pictures. I had a hummingbird flit around my head yesterday evening, and I think it was telling me "plant more flowers that we like". What do you think it might have been trying to tell me?

  3. Thanks, what a treat to see hummingbirds as they do not live where I do. How nice that this one sat still for so long. I didn't know they liked sunflowers. The things you learn while blogging eh? ;-)

  4. I would love to have a hummer sit still for pictures! I haven't seen a hummingbird for days here. I think it is too cold and that they have left for the year. I was surprised to still have a few monarchs yesterday.

  5. Marci, thank you for stopping by also. I'd love to see Brad and Sue again, they made bread making look so easy, I literally spent hours watching them at their booth.

Carol, thank you. I don't know what it could have been telling you. Were you wearing red by any chance? Maybe it thought you were a flower. Seriously though, they are so curious and the ones around here have not been too bashful when I've been outside.

Your welcome, Yolanda. I didn't know they liked sunflowers either. I think they will pretty much use whatever nectar source they can find, at least that is what these around here are doing.

Apple, every morning I go to the window with my coffee looking for them. They were back again today. I'm really going to miss them when they go. I still have several kinds of butterflies around here, monarchs as well.

  6. Wow, I love any bird photo where I can see individual feathers, but hummingbirds are extra special. I thought they'd left me, but I saw one at the feeder this afternoon.
