Potter's Bridge

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day! One of favorite places locally in the fall is Potter's Bridge. After church, while everyone else was watching the Colts play football, my camera and I took a walk around Potter's Bridge.

The trees are just beginning to change colors and drop their leaves. The reflection on the water was beautiful today. I can't wait until the amazing autumn colors are reflected in the water.

These are huge leaves!

While I was walking I heard a chipmunk making the loudest noise. I stopped in the general direction and looked until I finally spotted it. Even though they're cute, I'm very glad they aren't in my yard here. I had them in Alabama and they were such a menace.

I saw a Woolly Bear caterpillar crossing the path today. There is folklore regarding the coloring of the woolly bear, "More brown than black means a fair winter, but more black than brown means there is going to be a harsh winter". They say it isn't really true, but my feelings won't be hurt one bit if it proves to be accurate this year!

I'm sure I'll be going back frequently now to watch as the leaves change color.

  1. Seems like a peaceful and beautiful place. That water was so still and the reflection so perfect. It must be outstanding when the leaves change. Can't wait to see those photographs... should be pretty soon.

  5. I would have chosen the walk and the bridge location over football too Robin! Your photos are so serene looking, not a ripple on the water. Those days are truly the perfect ones, aren't they? My feelings wouldn't be hurt either if the caterpillar markings are right! The past two winters have been rough for us. I know we need moisture but I'll take it in the form of rain over snow anyday!

  7. You've taken us to this lovely place before, Robin - thanks for another visit! I can see why it's one of your favorite places.

Your photos continue to amaze and grow more beautiful. I couldn't resist going back to the other posts on the bridge and enjoyed watching your style develop. If the wooly bear is right you'll be out taking pictures all year!

  11. Robin, I'm catching up a little...

Potter's Bridge is gorgeous - thanks for sharing that view!!!! The leaf afloat is perfect.

You made it seem so easy to raise black swallowtails... I don't know if I would have the patience to wait :o)

    Your photos are tremendous, Robin.

  12. Robin, beautiful fall pictures. I love those covered bridges and have enjoyed going to the Covered Bridge festival in Indiana several times. the willy worm looks like a cold start to winter(black), then a milder time(orange) followed by a severe short end to the winter(black). At least it's fun to speculate. :) Thanks for sharing your peaceful day'

  13. Thank you for sharing your walk with us. I do have chipmunks here, but I have never heard them make a sound, or, if I did, I didn't realize what it was. Squirrels make loud, strange sounds sometimes. If I heard a chippy, I probably thought it was a squirrel. I love watching ducks in water, it is the most relaxing thing I know. I just about fall asleep while watching them. I first noticed that at a zoo when I was a child, and it is still true.

  14. Hi Robin, this is a comment about Blotanical which you can delete after you are through with it. I don't know your email address.

Right now, I am using the work-around that Stuart gave us and it was working last time I looked. After we install it, he may have to tweak something, but I'm not sure. He was taking his family camping for 5 days. If he has to tweak it, it will be a few days before it works, but I would go ahead and try it. Here are his instructions; they worked for me. When I published, I waited 30 minutes, then clicked the ping button in my plot.

  15. What a lovely walk you enjoyed, Robin! I'd never heard the folklore about the Wooly bear, and I think it's very interesting. We'll have to see what winter brings, won't we?

I was amused by your comment about football--since getting to know a lot more American friends through both gardening and another interest, I'm learning that the sport is almost like a religion to some, and definitely has some very inspired fans.

  21. What a beautiful place, it reminds me of WV. Our leaves are just now starting to turn and it is really begining to look like fall. I'm enjoying your blog and have added it to my favorites. Blogging is something I never thought I would do, but there are so many ones that I love...

  22. I would agree with you that chipmunks are a HUGE menace. I have a couple of chipmunks that live in my yard and I despise them. The first year I was going to plant cucumbers I planted a total of 8 plants in the end, those menaces up and ate all but 2! There names Charles, and Spencer.
I love Your site, It is probably one of the top 5 that I like best!
