Garden Blogger Bloom Day

Today is Garden Blogger Bloom Day, hosted by Carol of May Dreams Garden. It is 82° here today and the record breaking highs have caused us to have earlier than normal spring blooms.


I'm not sure what the plant is in the bottom middle, I think it is a weed. I was hesitant to pull it up until I saw the flower. It has gotten huge in a short period of time. My poor lone surviving lilac shrub has very few blooms, but I could still smell it as I was weeding in the yard today. I am really hoping that the two new lilacs will do better. My flowering crabapple tree is blooming, but my paltry flowers are hardly worth mentioning after posting about the tree down the street.

Funny how plants differ. I have two red twig dogwoods planted together. One is covered in blooms and I've yet to see a bloom on the other.



I am still enjoying the tulips. Most of mine are pink or purple but there are a few red ones scattered about. The peonies have buds! I can't wait for them to bloom again. Lilacs and peonies, both make my heart sing with delight!

The clematis are full of buds. I look forward to seeing them again too!


I was surprised to see the May Night Salvia beginning to bloom already. Oops, I just realized that I put that dogwood in two collages.

I have phlox in several places, it has spread and is blooming like crazy! I think I need to do some transplanting.

I have some things that I have to get done today, so I better get off of the computer and get busy. I hope everyone is having a great day!

Garden Blogger Bloom Day

It was a gorgeous day with the most amazing blue sky! I enjoyed finally being able to spend some time cleaning up in the garden. It was wonderful to look around and see all of the spring growth emerging!


I was so surprised to see an iris today. It is amazing how quickly they can pop up when the temperature warms up and we actually get a little sunshine.



My only blooms so far are crocus and one lone iris, but it won't be long and I'll have daffodils. I'm already seeing flower buds!

I'm a day late, (oops it's already after midnight, so that makes it two days late), but I'm linking up to Garden Blogger Bloom Day, hosted by Carol, from May Dreams Gardens.

November Garden Blogger Bloom Day

The weather the last few days has been absolutely delightful! I've been trying to stay outdoors as much as possible for I know the warm sunny weather won't last much longer.

These pictures were taken a few days ago and, after the frosts we've had, I was surprised to see so many of the plants still in bloom. The mums are the most prolific bloomers by far, and I guess the biggest surprise was to find a few blooms on the dianthus. I forgot to include the picture of the lavender bloom in the collage.



This clematis is another pleasant surprise! I wasn't expecting to see another round of blooms, especially so late in the year!



I've lost most of the cosmos due to the frost, but these are in a more protected area next to the house and they are still blooming and attracting the few remaining insects.

It's been a while since I've participated in Garden Blogger Bloom Day, (hosted by Carol of May Dreams Gardens), hopefully by next spring I'll have my act together and be able to participate more regularly.

May Garden Blogger Bloom Day

I can't believe how long it's been since I've done a Garden Blogger Bloom Day post, hosted by Carol of May Dreams Gardens. I faithfully did them for seventeen months, then I missed October and November due to sickness, and then winter set in and I had nothing blooming indoors this year, early spring came and I was in Alabama due to my dad's cancer surgery. I'm hoping things will be relatively calm now through the rest of the spring and summer so I can once again regularly participate in the GBBD posts.

I'm so glad the weather is warmer now and I have flowers blooming again!


My young Kousa dogwood looks healthy, but it only has about three or four blooms this year. Hopefully as it ages it will bloom more. I have a late blooming hyacinth and the bees are already swarming the salvia. The purple wave petunias are some of the plants I grew over the winter that survived my time away. Most of the others didn't.


I have several clematis that are blooming.



The dianthus, 'Wine and Roses' weigelia, 'Karen' azaleas, allium, and pink double 'Knock out' roses, (only because I just planted it), are blooming. The peonies will probably bloom in a few days, I just hope they will bloom during a dry spell so we can enjoy the blooms a little longer. I look forward to seeing what everyone else has blooming in their gardens during this fine month of May!

September Garden Blogger Bloom Day

The most beautiful flowers here at Robin's Nesting Place, during the month of September, are the ones adorned by the butterflies. This little beauty is on the lantana. I have several different colors of lantana but the pink has always been my favorite and is also the best performer for me.



As the blooms fade on the butterfly bush, the mums take over and dominate the show.



I can't remember if this cosmos is "Picotee" or "Candy Stripe" but I have really enjoyed it. I plan to collect the seeds and hopefully grow more of it next year.

This is one of the Blanketflower that was wintersown. It really hasn't done very well this year but hopefully next year it will be larger and have more blooms.

I have enjoyed the combination of Russian sage, lambs ear and dusty miller again this year. The carpet rose and the knockout roses are still blooming. As is the Russian sage. For some reason, the 'May Night' salvia has had a dismal year. Last year it was beautiful all summer long, this year they all looked as though they were diseased. I wonder if it is due to the wet spring we had.


I love this color of zinnia!

I have several groupings of zinnias around the back yard. Some did well and others were a flop. I need to do a zinnia post to remind myself of what not to sow next summer.

Several weeks ago the 'Purple Wave' petunias were looking pretty bad. I cut them all the way down to about an inch or two and they quickly grew back. I'll definitely grow these from seed again. There is nothing easier to grow from seed that gives a great display of color all spring and summer long than the wave petunia.

The front flower bed has filled out nicely with the impatiens. The coleus seeds from the front porch planters must have blown into the bed because now I have a lot of little coleus growing with the impatiens.

I have quite a few grasses and they are all in bloom right now. I have two of these near the kitchen window and I love when the sun is shining on them, the feathery plumes just glisten in the sunlight.

Garden Blogger Bloom Day

Another late Garden Blogger Bloom Day post. The garden here at Robin's Nesting place is just beginning to be at the stage where I enjoy it most. That time of year when I see butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds and lots of blooms! I agree with Carol, from May Dreams Gardens, (who is our wonderful hostess for this event), that it is much nicer to have too much rain than not enough. Last year we were having drought conditions and it was not pretty. Much better this year!The hostas are in bloom now. I caught the dragonfly on this one yesterday.

The carpet rose after being cleared of Japanese beetles.

I have a lot of purple coneflower this year. I can usually find a bug, a bee or a butterfly on them.

I'm not sure what this is. Could it be purple loosestrife?

The Russian sage is blooming. I love the fuzzy texture of this flower.

The balloon flowers that I grew from seed are just beginning to bloom. Most of them were eaten by the pill bugs after they were planted. I salvaged these by placing them in a planter. I'll wait until fall and hopefully they will be mature enough by then to survive.

June Garden Blogger Bloom Day

Another late Garden Blogger Bloom Day post for me. I look forward to visiting other gardeners who posted at May Dreams Garden to see what everyone else has blooming in the month of June.

I've never had success with roses that require spraying and fussing over, but I have several of the carpet roses and Knockout roses and they are doing quite well this year. They have smaller flowers and aren't all that spectacular, but they are trouble free and they provide a lot of blooms.

I don't remember what this is. I'm not even sure when I bought it, but this is the first time it has bloomed. Does anyone know what it is?

The gerbera daisies that I over-wintered are just beginning to bloom. They bloomed all winter long, but stopped blooming when I put them back outside. One of them died, but the others have perked up and are putting on a show right now.
