Something New!
I enjoy photography and love to photograph family, friends and nature. I've had the opportunity to do senior portraits for several people and have a few more sessions coming up. My current cameras do fine for most of my hobby photography, but I wasn't completely satisfied with the picture quality for senior pictures especially the enlargements.
I have recently been asked to shoot the pictures for my church's new pictorial directory in January. I'm honored and excited but also quite nervous about that endeavor. I had been dreaming of upgrading to a more professional camera for quite some time, but couldn't justify the expense. I was able to find a really good deal this weekend on the Canon EOS 50D and the 75-300 lens. My generous hubby agreed that it was time to upgrade considering the opportunities that were approaching.
These are some of the first shots with the new camera, (no editing has been done) . I haven't had time to read the manual yet and don't even know how to turn on the flash. It is quite different from my Sony A-100 and I'm eager to figure it out.
I'm looking forward to having birds other than house sparrows and finches to photograph! At least I had my precious little friend here today. Isn't he adorable? He is as sweet as he is cute!
Unlike my 21 and 16 year old children, he rewards me with a smile for the camera! Sweet!

Congratulations on your new camera! I have the Canon 40D and am doing my own little bit of manual reading, having recently upgraded from the 20D. You'll have SUCH FUN and you will be GREAT at your new photography gigs. We all know, here in blogger world, what a fantastic photographer you are. Break a leg (as they say)!
Robin,
How exciting for you! Your photos have always been excellent. You are going to have so much fun with this camera. I can already appreciate the quality of the dslr! I am doing a dance for you!
My camera is slowly dying...this is not a sad occasion; but it is difficult to decide how far to push the skills envelope in moving to a new level of camera. It will be fun to hear about and see your photo adventures.

How wonderful! You've always done such great photographs. Great post.
Congrats on the new camera-it takes beautiful pics! Enjoy!!
What fun! The photos are beautiful. My husband gave me money for a new camera last Christmas and I just ordered it today, almost one year later. :-)
Very cool indeed. So happy for you and it will be a huge leap in opportunities. Good luck with it.
Robin,
Thanks for the info on your new camera. I am browsing around for a new one and your post is very helpful and gives me great ideas.
I love your photography and it is always a treat to feast my eyes when I visit your lovely blog...one of my favorites.
Hope y'all have a happy holiday season.

Robin great camera..will be heavy though carrying around..great photos they take ..yours are perfect.
I know the time spent learning how to use a new camera! I'm still learning after a year how to use my Olympus!
Night shots still frustrate me!!
AWESOME! Congratulations! With your photography skills, I think it's a fabulous new camera for you.

Wow, Robin...great camera. I think it is wonderful that you are able to pursue something you love and are very good at. I always enjoy your photographs so much. Can't wait to see what you do with this super-duper camera.
Congratulations!
Wow, Robin! That's awesome.
I have not seen a sparrow in ages. Last year the sparrows arrived long before the goldfinches, but I haven't seen a single one. Maybe they stayed up there with you.
Thank you for all your kind words of encouragement, dear friend.
What a great camera. I can't wait to see what all you capture with this camera. Your little friend is a cutie.
Robin, I am so happy for you! Wow, what a lens that camera has. Merry Christmas to you a little early. :) ~~Dee
Now that is the kind of model we all want in front of our camera, what a little cutie!
Congrats on your new camera, I know they cost an arm and a leg so I understand you had to think hard about this.
Happy shooting with your new camera!
Oh, Robin, I think you will definitely fall in love with that camera. Right out of the box, it's taking super photos!
Can't wait for more.
And, that's a cute little boy :o)
I've been looking at cameras lately. Now, be sure to let us know how you like this one- okay?
Congratulations Robin on your fabulous new camera! I have the 20D and have had great success with it. I'm sure the 50D is a million times better. The learning curve was pretty easy for me so I bet it will be for you too. Have fun with your new gift ~ it's so exciting because we'll all benefit!! Merry Christmas to you (and your family) too!
Congratulations on your new camera! And a pat on the back for getting a Canon. I've had a lot of cameras in my lifetime and I like Canons by far the best.
I don't want to go with interchangeable lenses again (since my days with my AE-1 SLR), so I'm hoping to get the Canon SX10 IS soon.
I look forward to even more fabulous photos! I'm never disappointed when I visit. You deserve this camera, Robin. Someone with your talent should have superior equipment to work with so you can make the most of it.
