Today we had a reprieve from winter. It was sunny and the temperature was right around 60 degrees. Absolutely beautiful! I took the opportunity to cut back some of my grasses and to do a little cleaning in the flower beds.
I was deliriously happy to be out in the garden. I couldn't help but smile as I did my work. The trees and shrubs have tiny little buds on them and some of the perennials already had green growth underneath the decayed leaves. Ahh... the promise of spring. It won't be long and I'll have lilacs blooming again.

What a beautiful Lilac, Robin! I too am anxious for spring. We've had rain, of course, and they say snow might be in the coming forecast- I love the snow, it's the constant, overcast skies I can't take too much of! Happy gardening wishes to you :)
Lovely photo of the lilac. Makes me miss the lilac we had removed during the renovation. The poor thing had two main trunks and had to be cabled for last couple years.

Days like that are very precious at this time of year, aren't they? It makes me very happy to be out and about in the garden. Winter seems to be the longest season.

Robin, We will be getting that 60 degree temp day today...I can't wait. Love your lilac... hope mine will bloom this year...what's left of it after the voles.

Our lilacs should begin to bloom sometime in May.
We had glorious sunshine and warmer temps too, and even warmer are expected today. Unfortunately I'm working, but the ground is still covered in snow so no gardening would be done anyway.
I'm content to just enjoy the warmth!
I can't wait to see those beautiful lilacs again!

Hi Robin - What a beautiful lilac. It does feel good in the garden when spring is just around the corner. Here in Mobile AL on the gulf coast we have had a taste of spring too. Today should be sunny and 70 degrees. Too bad I have to sit at a desk and work.

What a beautiful pic of the lilacs. Mine are in bud too and like you it is high 50's. Unforchunaly I will have to cut down my large mature lilac, as that it has lilac ash borer. So gaurd your tree. These pests are pesty (if that is even a word).

Robin, I think that's the best shot of a possum's face I've seen! Homely little creatures but I like them.
I know the feeling of the first warmish day and the faint smell of spring.

As you know already, I enjoyed my day in the garden too. But I'm wondering if my work will wash away this weekend. I suppose you just came through one storm and I hope you faired well. We could be facing the worst storm we've ever seen Sat-Monday. It could be nothing or it could be several feet of snow. Or worse those scary tornadoes. We're very concerned about it here in NC.

Robin, We also had a beautiful day on Wednesday, but unfortunately I had to work and missed the chance to be outside. I'm waiting, though, for the ground to dry out as well before attempting too much.
I just realized I haven't been here in awhile...a lot going on at my house the last two weeks. Anyway, thank you for sharing all the beautiful photos--what a feast for the eyes! Of course, the possum isn't that beautiful:) But those are amazing photos! We often have possums visiting here on the farm; I have to be careful about leaving the outdoor cats' food outside at night because they will come right up to the porch to eat it. Glad to know they don't carry rabies; that is always a concern with wild creatures.
Hi Robin, It is so good to be back home again in IN. I hope you got your photos all backed up. What a scare to think of losing all of your beautiful photos. That would be a lot of work gone poof.
We have a possum every once in a while. Much better than having a skunk around I must say. Luna gets all upset when they come into the garden. She barks a funny shrill bark at them. They have played dead in the past. I hope yours goes away. It probably will if Lily scares it sometime.
I can't wait until the lilacs are blooming here too. I came home to helebores and crocus blooming. Yipee. It is really cold here for the next few days.

I'm a recent transplant to Kansas (from Ohio) so I'll be facing new gardening challenges, not only from state to state, but from city to extreme rural-ness! Hi Robin, Your lilac brings thoughts of spring to me now that I am in the midst of a snow storm! I had gone out 2 days ago, purchased spring bulbs, some tulips and daffs, and others to plant (they were above the dirt but not yet blooming)...then, this mess arrived! It's supposed to snow all day tomorrow into the next! We are a foot behind in our snow, they said, so now Mother Nature decides to make up for it. Not Fair:) I really wanted snow around Christmas. Now I've already been in the garden and was ready to go...talk about frustration!
