After Thanksgiving Miscellany

Wednesday while in the kitchen cooking, I noticed a Cooper's hawk on the bird feeder dining on a house sparrow. Wouldn't you know it, my good camera was upstairs, but it didn't have the zoom lens on it anyway. I grabbed the camera that I keep in my purse and took a few shots before it flew away. The white balance setting was wrong, so the pictures didn't turn out very well.

I didn't see the hawks much over the summer, I guess now that it's turning colder they'll be more frequent visitors. As long as they dine on house sparrows and starlings I won't be sad to see them visit.

I dread seeing how many rabbits are here next year. There are more this year than I ever recall seeing and they are quite brave considering we have a dog that chases them out of the yard when she see them. They just keep coming right back.

I was cleaning and organizing in my craft room and closet a few days ago, of course Ms. Kitty has to be in the middle of it all. She particularly loves flowers.

Today has been a restful day, sleeping late and eating leftovers. No Black Friday shopping for me, there has never been anything that I wanted bad enough to fight the crowds over. Some people love it but, no thank you, that is not my thing.

Kitties love to "help", don't they :)
I know it sounds awful, but I wouldn't mind if a hawk ate a few of our House Sparrow population either ( or the starlings). They eat most of the birdseed and make a horrible mess of the front porch, and they multiply like rabbits!
Speaking of which, I hope your dog can discourage the vast majoritiy of your rabbits. We're lucky to not have so many around because our barn cats discourage them.

I'm with Kerri. A hawk is welcome to all the House Sparrows and Starlings that they want...and Happy Thanksgiving to them!!! Lovely post, dearie!

Cats always seem to like craft rooms. Or at least a place where they can be in the way. Such a cute picture.

Hi Robin! From three creatures featured in your post, I like the third one the most!

Your new header looks so festive. Mz Kitty is so cute lying there in the flowers. Maybe she should be named Mz Flower.

I love the new header, too, Robin. Glad you're having a restful weekend. We skipped shopping, too - I used to go but don't have the energy for it this year! If you're lucky, maybe the hawks will keep the bunnies at bay, too.

We have hawks hanging around our yard on the lookout for rabbits. Even though I like rabbits, I wouldn't miss a few of them.

I have kept my eyes open for a Cooper's Hawk here, because I'm certain we have them, but I've not seen one yet.

We do have a hawk of some sort that keeps hanging around just down the road. It's white on the underside, dark on top, and has a white band across its tail. Any idea what that might be?

Love Ms. Kitty's expression!

I love the composition of the photo with the Cooper's Hawk, Robin. You may not be happy with the results, but I think it's a lovely picture. Our cat Toby can often be found in the strangest places, too:) Hope you had a relaxing weekend, Robin. I babysat two of the grandkids overnight so their Mom and Dad could go shopping Friday morning--I'll take watching cartoons and playing with the grandkids in my pj's anytime over fighting crowded malls!

Hate to see the Hawks dine on anything...yuck.

Looking at your label "camera"...must admit love the large pics. Is there a trick you could teach me?

I've started seeing the hawks in my yard too Robin ~ not a Coopers but a Sharp Shinned. If they want to get sparrows, that's okay by me. I have plenty of those but usually they pick off something else. We have lots of bunnies too but we also have a pair of Owls so they kind of keep them in check. Your cat is pretty darn cute nestled there in the flowers.
