I posted on November 11, about my Picasa account. I had reached approximately 70% of my storage space in seven months and had duplicates of many pictures on Picasa. Annie in Austin, graciously looked at my blog to try to figure out my problem. She saw that my pictures were about 80% larger in pixels than those on her blog.
When I looked closer at the individual pictures on Picasa I saw what the problem was. Annie was exactly right, I had never resized my pictures for posting, I thought this was done automatically. Most of my pictures were 1600 x 1200 pixels when they should have been 400 x 300. No wonder my storage space was almost gone!
Now, I am in the tedious process of going back through my blog posts, deleting the old pictures from Picasa, searching through the hundreds of My Pictures files and attempting to locate those pictures used on my blog, getting them back on Adobe to duplicate and resize, deleting the old pictures from blog posts and them adding the resized pictures and attempting to get them all in the right places. As I said in the title, what a pain!
Now that this has been brought to my attention, I've noticed that there are other bloggers who are not resizing their pictures, (if you click on the blog picture and it fills the computer screen, you are eating up Picasa storage). Please heed the warning and learn from my mistake. I've tried using Flickr and PhotoBucket, and I found that Blogger's Picasa system is the most simple and practical way for me to upload pictures. That is why I'm going through all of this trouble to salvage some of that valuable space.
Here is the link to the Beta Blogger for Dummies post on Picasa, which has the Picasa link where I found my album.

After all my time blogging, I am using only 30% of my picture storage, so I think I am okay. I think since I use Photoshop, it is resizing the pictures to be smaller.
I feel for you. Redoing something like that is no fun at all.

Carol, I use Photoshop too, I thought it automatically resized it, but apparently it wasn't. I'm having to manually do it.
Well, I feel dense but I can't even find my picasa account. Does everyone that uses blogger have one? I upload through blogger directly from Zoom Browser program on my computer. I have looked at blogger help and haven't found a way to get me to this picasa place. I guess I will try again.
I am really confused now about the picture size. I never resized them either. It didn't even occur to me. For some weird reason I noticed that if I post them as a small image, you can click on them and enlarge them screen size. If I upload them using the middle or large size, the enlarging doesn't work at all. I guess next time I am uploading picture I have to check about the size first and see how to make it smaller.

Lisa I just posted, (at the end of this blog post), the Beta Blogger for Dummies link that has the connecting link to Picasa where I found my album. Hope this helps.
Bek, and Lisa if you find out anything different please let me know; this is pretty confusing.
I have been reading your blog posts for a long time now - I think about 6+ months. I really enjoy reading your blog posts and love your pictures.
I feel your pain regarding redoing pictures. Couple of quick suggestions (or work flow) that might help you with your future posts.
When I download pictures from my camera, I use Picasa to manage my pictures and use it for a quick fix but occasionally I use Photoshop element 2 (yeah it's real old). Now when it comes to posting pictures to my blog,
1. Save my changes in Picasa - so that all my quick fixes, rotates etc are saved.
2. Right click on the pictures and have it open in Photoshop Elements.
3. Then from within elements, I go to file and click on save for the web option.
4. Within there I choose JPEG Medium, and set my width to be 480 (and use constrain properties options to set auto height)
5. Then I go to my blog and manually upload reduced sized pictures to my blog posts. You can see a sample post here.
When there is lots of files to be posted, I use the Batch Processing option with Photoshop Elements.
I hope it helps :)
This is not a fun prospect - I had better check and see if I have the same problem. I've always assumed my pictures are being resized...
Oh my dear, what an enormous amount of work is waiting for you, I really feel for you.
Like you I use picasa but I downsize my pics before they're put on both my blog and picasa. I still have lots of storage space left, I'm glad to say.
BTW thanks for making me aware that my pics are stored on picasa, I hadn't realised they were!
Robin thank you for bringing this all to light. I just started my blog so I shouldn't have the trouble you are facing. I feel your pain. UGH!!!
I want to thank everyone for their helpful hints here.
I ask you this Robin...would it be easier to start a new blog? Would you then have a new account with picasa and you could possibly have a link there to your old blog address?? Then all would be ok. Just a thought.
Okay, I'm completely clueless! Like Lisa, I have simply been uploading my photos from "My Pictures" on my PC. I'll have to investigate further. Thanks for alerting us about this.
sasi, I'm so glad that you've enjoyed my blog. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and for your suggestions.
Hi, Kate. No it isn't fun at all. I'm already tired of the task, so I took a break from Picasa today.
Lisa, thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure, but I think even if I start another Blogger blog, they would all be on the same Picasa account. I may be misunderstanding how it works though. I've looked into other blog hosts and Blogger seems to be the best route for me right now. Besides I think I'd have a hard time starting all over, I've gotten quite attached to Robin's Nesting Place.
I'm confused. I tried to log in to Picasa with my Blogger account as it suggested, but it said that I didn't have an account.
I only have 7% of my account used up -- and that is with two blogs, so I guess it might not matter anyway.
Robin, I'm glad my question about the photo size helped you - and I learned more about the way it works from you and your commenters.
Now I have to experiment a little with the size upload and see if I have a Picassa account. There's always something new to learn when you have a blog!

I am so glad you posted this! I just recently figured out how to resize pictures for another reason but it never occurred to me that I could and should resize them before posting them on my blog. I'm writing up my solution and hope to have it posted in a day or two.
I see you already know about using Picasa2! I should've read this post before I commented on the other one :)
I also see that other people make their pics even smaller than I do. Hmmmmmm. An interesting subject!
There's so much to learn, isn't there?
Hi Sylvana,
If this is your id on gmail (syvana@gmail.com) then your picasa address is picasaweb.google.com/sylvana and you can log in with your id (sylvana) and your gmail password.
Good luck!
P.S. You don't have public albums yet. So, you must choose "My photos" option.
I repeat, only if your gmail id is "sylvana".
