Which One

I wanted a nice pedestal container for my columns, but I'm not sure that either one of these look right.

I love this large one, but I think it is too tall, especially if I put a grass in it.

This one looks too small.

Anyone have an opinion on these or maybe another idea for me.

I like the smaller one. Once you have it filled with plants, it won't look so tiny. BTW, would you like to add your blog to Garden Voices on GardenWeb? I'm the editor of the page and always on the lookout for new blogs to add. Email me (OldRosesBlog@yahoo.com) if you have any questions.

Thank you for the invite. I love Garden Voices and would love to add my blog. And thanks for sharing your opinion with me on the containers.

I would go with a large clay pot, just my opinion.

I hate to disagree with another Hoosier, and I'll add the disclaimer that I'm not good with design, but I agree with Old Roses. I like the smaller one in size. Once it is filled with plants, especially some that trail, I think it will be the right size. Though I do like the patina on the taller one.

We are having some wonderfully sunny days this week!

Robin, the problem IMO is that your pots are very elegant while the pedestal (goodlooking though it is) is in a very different style. Pedestal and vase/pot should be in the same style.

The first one was best in size, the other pot was just too small. And you can trust me on this because I'm a designer. ;-) It's all about balance and complimenting each other. I hope this helps!

Yolanda, you are a wonderful designer and I trust your opinion. Do you think I need something more rustic looking rather than elegant? Do you have any ideas or pictures for me?

I do love the large container, is there any way to make it work?

Just to weigh in, I think neither of these containers is quite right. You need a deep, wide bowl for the top of this column. I'm thinking 1 1/2 feet in diameter. You could go with neutral terracotta or concrete or a colorful glazed container.

Either rustic or just a very simple form will do (clean lines). The beautiful big container you have now is too ornate. Just a simple terracotta bowl would do the trick and then stuff it full of plants and let some of them trail over the edge.
