Bird Brained Part 1

We've had more wintry weather today that has brought quite a lot of bird activity to Robin's Nesting Place. I apologize in advance for the number of bird pictures I'll be posting, I've been just a little bit bird brained today. I'll do two posts to divide up the pictures.

This blue jay was quite upset that the acorns and peanuts were covered with snow, (this picture was taken yesterday). It was making quite a racket. It never tried to move the snow out of the way to eat, just squawked angrily. Notice the whack job the rabbits have done on the burning bush? I saw little rabbit prints in the snow. I actually spotted the little menace a few days ago for the first time.

I went out and scraped away the snow this morning and filled it with fresh acorns and peanuts; the blue jays have been much happier today.

It always amazes me how many doves can sit together on a thin limb. There were more but a few flew away when I walked up to the door to get the picture.
Doves are so common, but they are such beautiful creatures.

I haven't really minded winter too much today. It always thrills me when I have beautiful birds within camera range.

Robin, don't apologize for too many bird pictures! I love to look at them. We have been bird poor here except for a few sparrows and starlings. I don't know where they are all hiding. Some one else must have better bird seed than I do. Aren't blue jays the funniest creatures. They remind me of a cantankerous old man. Not much pleases them and they like to holler a lot!

There cannot be too many bird pictures, especially when they are the quality of yours. I have been watching the birds out the window today thinking how much better the sparrows and brownish birds would show up on the ground if there was snow instead of mulch. Not complaining, just thinking.

I adore bird pictures. It's always interesting to see what birds are visiting people's yards.

I had never seen bluejays before this year. And just the other day I saw three at one time. I was so excited I was hopping up and down.

My husband thought I was nuts...

Your blue jay photos are beautiful, Robin. Such a sharp contrast to the ones I take here in southwest Florida. There was a blue jay in my yard today and I could not believe the range of noises he was making. Very similar to the mockingbird, I thought. He was very hard to photograph, though, as he kept hiding in the oak tree leaves.

These are so, so wonderful! Glad to see there are other fans of blue jays...they always make me chuckle to hear them, and that flash of blue is a real cheer me up on a grey day. Likewise, the doves are so gentle looking. We have 12-14 that visit here daily, and I love them like they were part of the family. The bad catchildren, peeking out the window at them, would like them to be part of the family--dinner! (But that's why the catchildren are indoors...)

Robin never apologize for posting birds. You can't get tooo many pictures of birds. Any photo you choose to show is fantastic. Bluejays are great and colorful but I just love the doves. They are so sweet. You can now start seeing the gorgeous pink iridesence on the male doves. Their blue eye ring will be glowing too. Gotta get those ladies interested. :)

Robin - wow. Those blue jays really pop against the pristine white of the snow. I never tire of looking at bird pictures, and these are really good. Thanks

Moving justa few miles out from the city enter, I've so many mroe birds and love it. More pics! I really have gotten to know these blue jay personalities though--angry things. Cardinals you can also hear a mile away but don't seem so mean.

Your remark about the Doves made me laugh, Robin. I'm amazed at how many of them can fit on a feeder ledge. They really need to "suck it in"!

Lovely photos, as usual.

The blue jay's color matches the bench - did you plan that by putting it's favorite food there? That is an interesting idea for those who get lots of birds - placing feeders next to garden structures & art to set them off. Post all the bird photos you like - they're great.

And the birds, especially the colorful ones, show up so beautifully against the snow. Love those sky-colored blue jays!
